About Swift Driving School

Based in Eastbourne, East Sussex, my name is Andy Akehurst I have been a fully qualified Driving Instructor since June 1998. I trained with a Driving School, with whom I worked until becoming independent in January 2001.
I have a large portfolio of successful students that have passed under my tuition.

My students are currently driving a 08 registered Suzuki Swift.

As I am a full time driving instructor the vehicle is always kept and maintained to a very high standard.

I passed my Hazard Perception Test in January 2005 when it first became compulsory for instructors.

I am a Grade 5 Instructor (The highest grade is a 6)

.The way the Course works

Firstly we arrange an assessment lesson so that you could get to know me, and the car that you would be driving, plus I would assess your basic driving skills. (Terms And Conditions must be signed before the first lesson begins. See back page)

If after the assessment lesson, if you would like to go ahead and book more lessons, we would finish off the paper work and arrange the best time for your next lesson. At the start of that lesson, I would require you to pay for that lesson, plus at least one hour in advance, or if you would like to take advantage of the discount for paying for 10hrs or more, we would deal with that.

I try to keep the lessons to a structure so that we keep a good track of your progress. I will explain how I keep the records on the first lesson. Depending on your experience we would normal start with, Pulling away and Stopping, Left and Right Turns, Roundabouts, Hills, Traffic Lights, Manoeuvres, Town Driving, Dual carriageways, then progress on to Mock Tests. These are not always done in the same order, but it gives a rough guide to your progress. The Nation average of hours it takes to pass the test is around 40 this is quoted by the Driving Standards Agency, my average is around 30-35 hrs. If you can drive in-between lessons this is an advantage as long as you drive as you have been taught. I can arrange both the Theory and Practical Tests for you if you wish, and arrange mock tests for both.

Most of my work comes through recommendations, so if you pass your test 1st time, in as short a time as possible your happy, you’ll tell someone else, that saves me advertising that makes me happy, so we all win.

 .Pass Plus

This course can be taken by anyone that has passed their practical test within the last year, there isn't a test at the end of it, but you must prove your confidence at driving on country roads, rural roads and motorways, you must also show a good knowledge of driving in all weathers and at night. At the end of the 6 hours I would then sign you off . (if you have proven that you are competent and confident at all the elements) I would then send the complete form off to the DSA, you then receive a certificate, to send to your insurance company and receive money off your insurance premium. (check with your Insurance as to how much, some go up to as much as 40% off). Please remember the first reason for doing the Pass Plus should be for the experience of driving on different roads under tuition, not just for the money off.

Motorway Lessons

These can be taken by anyone, if you have never driven on, or worried about driving on Motorways here’s the chance have a go under tuition. Normally a 3-4 hour drive up to the M23-M25 can give you that confidence that you need.

Airport Run’s

Like the Motorway’s you maybe worried about doing this for the first time, so I can take you to Gatwick or Heathrow so that you can get the general lay out of the Terminals and drop off points, so this would save you time and worry, when you take or pick up friends or relatives. Allow 3hrs for Gatwick and 5 hours for Heathrow.

On both Motorway lessons and Airport Run’s we always stop for a break so that you have time to rest.

I enjoy my job of teaching you to Drive, so I hope you can enjoy Learning. Good Luck   Andy
